So, Here, let me give you my list of favorites where you can download electronic books for the iPad. (When called favorites .. yes, the free factor is included) .. hahaha. All of this list is free, so you can download any ebooks you want a piece of cake.
Here are some sites that have free books that are already in ePub format. That will import and read what is on iBooks.

epubBooks offers a wide selection of high quality EPUB eBooks for anyone to download and read, and absolutely free. But that still does not offer the best sellers here in epubBooks.

Baen Books has made available - free - several of its titles in electronic format. We're calling it the Baen Free Library. Anyone who wishes can read these titles online - no conditions, no strings attached. (Later, you can ask a very simple, the name and e-mail log only). Or if you prefer, you can download books in one of several formats. Again, without conditions or strings attached. (URLs to sites that offer readers of these formats are also listed.

These were created from the books for free as part of Project Gutenberg. Of all eBook formats, I chose the EPUB standard because it is open and well documented, it makes good use of existing standards, and the program e-book reader FBReader can read ePub files. Most importantly, FBReader is the only eBook reader that I know can run on the OLPC XO laptop.
